Dismissal
If an employee is to be dismissed, call a meeting in private (after the disciplinary meeting) and let the employee know they are to be dismissed. A letter confirming this should be given to the employee. If the employment contract says the employer is allowed to give money in lieu of notice then a cheque may be drawn up to this.
If no notice period is defined in a contract or in any company rules, then a 'reasonable' amount of time must be given. It is a breach of the employment arrangement between parties if the employer does not give notice to the employee.
