Draft Criteria and Conditions for Local Commercial FM Radio Broadcasting Licences – Consultation
The Ministry of Economic Development (MED) has released the draft criteria and conditions for local commercial FM licences for consultation.
In July 2006, Cabinet agreed to reserve licences for local commercial use, to be allocated by auction but restricted to new entrants for local broadcasting purposes consistent with the objectives in the Regional and Community Broadcasting Policy Framework.
Cabinet also noted that policies for local commercial broadcasting would need to be developed to ensure that ongoing use and ownership of these licences will be constrained so as to reflect the original allocation objective [POL Min (06) 15/7].
The draft criteria for local commercial licences have now been released. Comments are invited by 27 July 2007.

Note that the Ministry for Culture and Heritage has already consulted on the proposed criteria and conditions for non-commercial FM licences. Further information on this can be found on their website at http://www.mch.govt.nz/radio-tv-licences/index.html.
